Host a Pool Party to Remember

Dive-In Movie

Like the drive-in movies of old, but with a twist. You can rent a projector and screen, move your big screen TV poolside for the evening, or purchase an inexpensive projector and show the movie on the side of your house. Choose a film that’s appropriately themed – “The Little Mermaid” for the younger crowd, “Jaws” or classic 50’s beach movies for older party goers.

For snacks, serve classic movie treats like popcorn and candy, plus summer favorites like Popsicles. And be sure to have plenty of rafts, rings and other flotation devices available so your guests can watch from the water. That’s the whole point, after all!

Luau

A Hawaiian luau is a classic pool party idea, for a great reason – it’s fun! Themed decorations are inexpensive and easy to find, so you won’t have any trouble making your guests feel like they’ve stepped into a tropical paradise. Think leis and tiki torches, tropical flowers, bamboo and palm trees.

Serve delicious dishes with a taste of the islands, like ham or chicken prepared with pineapple, rice, and yummy fruits and vegetables. If you’re feeling truly ambitious (and you have the space), you might even consider hosting a traditional pig roast. Mai Tai and Blue Hawaii are traditional Hawaiian cocktails, while any fruity non-alcoholic punch will also fit your theme.

Whatever theme you follow, be sure to have plenty of extra towels and inexpensive flip flops on hand for guests who forget to bring their own. Have a changing room available, make sure all glassware is actually plastic (safety first!), and have plenty of tables so guests have space to set their food and drinks. And of course you’ll want to make sure your pool is clean and the water is clear. Be sure to stop in for the supplies you need, or schedule a cleaning.
