Maybe one of the reasons you went with an above ground pool was for added safety. After all, it’s harder for children or pets to fall into a pool raised several feet off the ground than it is for them to stumble into an in-ground pool.
However, as with anything of that nature, you should take some additional safety measures to protect all access points, especially if you have little ones.
Deck Access Safety
If you have or are planning to build a deck around your above ground swimming pool Fayetteville NC, this can provide easier access to the water if you don’t take extra precautions. The deck should have a railing and a gate at the top of the stairs that only latches from the inside. Most children at risk of drowning will not be able to reach a latch of that nature, or simply may not know how to use it. As an extra step, add a lock to the gate that requires either a key or combination.
If you’re above ground pool Raleigh NC doesn’t have a deck, then you likely have a ladder to access the water. When the pool is not in use, your ladder needs to be removed from the pool and put away in a secure location to make sure your children don’t get into the pool unsupervised. Another option is a retractable ladder that will lock in an upward position when not in use.
There are also water security systems available that, when activated, will alert you when the water is breached. You can get systems that transmit a signal to an alarm you install indoors so that you can always hear it. Some of these attach to the side of the pool and others float in the water. All of them can be shut off manually when you’re actually using the pool together too.
We’re excited you’ve selected an above ground pool Fayetteville NC for your family to enjoy together. There is certainly nothing wrong with taking extra security measure to make sure your family is safe even when the pool is not in use.

At Parrot Bay Pools, we recognize that purchasing swimming pools Fayetteville NC can be somewhat overwhelming. That’s especially true if you don’t have all of the above ground pool information you need to get started. But have no fear, we compiled some start up tips for you. Before you go any further, check with your homeowner’s association to approve construction of an above ground pool and deck design. There are also city zoning regulations (including the applicable permits) that our customer service team can help you with.
Available Space, Size and Shape
Before you start with a design plan, determine how much space is available in your yard for a pool. Measure the area you want to put it in and leave at least six feet of leeway on all sides for the pool perimeter. Also keep in mind how you want to access your pool and if you’d like to include any decking.
Then, decide what shape you want for your above ground swimming pool design (round or oval generally), which certainly depends upon your available yard space and your purposes for the pool (just for your family or for entertaining large crowds, etc.). While you’re at it, consider what wall patterns you may be interested in to make sure they’re available for the size of pool you want.
Sanitizing System for an Above Ground Pool
Determine what swimming pool above ground sanitizing system you prefer, which is generally salt, chlorine or bromine as the sanitizing agent. All of these work in above ground swimming pools and all of them have their advantages and disadvantages. There is no right or wrong answer here; it’s just a matter of personal preference. We can gladly provide you with more information on each option.
Swimming Pool Accessories
There are other little things that you must decide for swimming pools above ground Fuquay-Varina NC. Other equipment includes the type of filtration system and whether you want a water heater or not (which will extend your swim season).
Swimming pool covers are an important consideration, too. And there are accessories such as lighting and pool vacuums that keep the water crystal clear. Parrot Bay Pools representatives are happy to show you all of the available accessories in our showroom.
We realize that this list is just a starting point, but it at least gives you some things to consider. Contact us at Parrot Bay Pools to get moving on your above ground pool design.

Are you looking for a new and inventive way to have an Easter egg hunt in your backyard? Are your older kids tired of the traditional hide-n-seek? Well, if your NC swimming pool is open for the season, consider these suggestions to change things up for the Easter holiday!
Bob for Easter Eggs in Your NC Swimming Pool
Toss those empty, plastic Easter eggs in the pool. Set a timer and send the kiddos racing to get the most eggs in the allotted time frame. This is, of course, an activity that requires supervision. We recommend having separate competitions for the big kids and the little ones for safety reasons. Do two to three rounds by age as the need arises (with eggs in the shallow end only for smaller children). Or extend the fun and have each kid go one at a time to see who gets the most eggs in two minutes.
Enjoy an Underwater Easter Egg Hunt
Weight the plastic Easter eggs with coins and they’ll sink to the bottom of the pool. Tip: if you put too much weight in the egg, the pressure of the water will make it pop open. Have everyone dive in at once to find the most eggs before they’re all gone, or make it an individual competition to see how long it takes each of them to find them all (kid with the best time gets an extra five dollars). Utilize swimming pool accessories like LED lights and do the egg hunt at night to make it more interesting.
Isn’t it great how versatile swimming pools, Raleigh, NC, can be for great fun with family and friends? The above ground swimming pool and deck design (or in-ground fiberglass pool installation) are a great idea!

Whether you have an in-ground or above ground swimming pool, cascades, bubblers, spillways and streams (especially with LED lighting) can really make a pool a beautiful part of your backyard landscape.
Add a Slide or Diving Board to Your Pool Project

Typical expectations for an in-ground swimming pool Raleigh NC patio is simple, gray concrete. But these days, few are happy with simple. Have no fear, there are some great ways to spruce up your swimming pool patio design so that your pool looks like part of your backyard landscape rather than a drab eyesore.
Pool Patio Design: Stamped Concrete
It’s just like it sounds – stamping the concrete with a pattern that resembles brick, stone, tile wood or other natural elements and textures. This gives the benefits of concrete (longevity, low maintenance, seamless construction) without the expense and maintenance of the other options. Stamped concrete also maintains a surface with traction to minimize falls. You can add pigment to the concrete in earth tones as well, so you’re not stuck with gray (unless you want to be!).
Pool Patio Design: Stone
Another option for your pool or patio, if within your budget, is to use stone – keeping in mind that you want to avoid smooth surfaces because they can be a fall hazard (so, no tile). Cobblestone and flagstone are great options that add both charm and texture (for safety) to a swimming pool design. Slate is another popular choice, though a bit heavier on the budget.
Pool Patio Design: Wood
If your in-ground swimming pool Fayetteville NC is on an elevated portion of your yard, then a wood deck may be a classic option. The contrast of the wood makes the pool design pop. Just remember, however, that wood probably requires the most maintenance of all of these options, including annual staining. Your choice of wood can create an atmosphere too. For example, bamboo wood planks, coupled with bamboo growing near the pool and some lanterns, would provide an Asian elegance to your backyard.
There are several other elements that can add to the total aesthetic of your swimming pool and deck design, including the addition of water or light features and your landscape design. Parrot Bay Pools would be honored to help you make your pool design all your own.

You’ve placed the order and the construction crew just broke ground. But, suddenly, your in-ground swimming pool design is starting to seem a little barren in your head. Thankfully, there are ways you can add the right swimming pool accessories to your project before it’s complete, with limited delay in the start of your swimming season.
- Cascades – small cascades of water around the pool with the function of jets for water circulation, but more appealing
- Bubblers – eruptions of water, typically centered in the swimming pools Fuquay-Varina NC
- Spillways – more or less a waterfall, and a beautiful way to add aesthetic appeal to water circulation
- Streams – small fountain-like spouts of water arching over the pool
Pool Accessory Design
- Tanning Ledge – installed on the side of the pool, it’s a small ledge with a couple of inches of water to keep you cool while working on your tan
- Vanishing Edge – where the water flows over one raised edge of the pool into a basin (and then pumped back into the pool), so it appears that the water never ends – also known as “infinity edge”
- Beach Entry – rather than stepping down into the shallow end of the pool, the beach entry is a gradual degrade into the water, just as if you were walking into the ocean from the beach
- Steps – offer a budget-friendly entry point option for any in-ground swimming pool design Raleigh NC
If you have a deeper end to your pool, then a slide or diving can be a fun additional swimming pool accessories for kids, teens and the whole family. Several slide options are available, including straight and twist slides. It’s simply a matter of your preference and the depth of the water.
You can add LED lighting almost anywhere in a pool, which makes night swimming that much more enjoyable. LED color-changing features are available for the lights in the side of the pool, or even within water features, such as bubblers or streams.
If you want to add any of these elements to your swimming pool and deck design, let us know, especially if construction is underway. At Parrot Bay Pools, we’re happy to help create the pool of your dreams.

An in-ground pool is not a small investment or a impulse buy. There are simply too many elements that are part of the purchase process — it requires planning and forethought. So, if you’re thinking about a swimming pool installation for your backyard, now is the time to start planning. You may find that all of the considerations you take into account help to finalize your decision.

Before you decide on the size and shape of your pool, you’re going to need to determine what will actually fit in your backyard. Time to get out the measuring tape! As a general rule, allow for a six foot radius around your swimming pool, so that it doesn’t end up too close to other buildings or required structures.
You might also consider calling 811, the federally designed call-before-you-dig number. They’ll mark your yard for free so that you know where all buried gas and utility lines are, giving you a clearer picture of your available pool space.
Examine Your Options
