Celebrate Independence Day with a Pool Party! It’s a great excuse to get together for Bar-B-Que and swimming pool fun! Here are some tips for planning your 4th of July themed gathering.
Make the Pool and Backyard Festive
If you’ve yet to install your above ground pool, and really want to get into the holiday spirit, then let us help you choose your perfect pool — and ordering now should have it up and ready just in time for your party.
Then, for the party, spruce up your pool even more with floating red, white and blue LED lights or glow sticks tossed in the water. You might also consider colored pool accessories, such as beach balls, floating lounge chairs, etc. Change the cushions on your outdoor furniture to colors that match the holiday as well. Hang red, white and blue lights or paper lanterns from anything in the backyard that will stand still, such as a tree or your pergola.
Feed a Crowd
It’s not a pool party without some awesome food; there are so many options! Have a potluck where all the guests bring sides and you provide the meat, be the hostess with the mostest and create a menu, or find your sweet spot somewhere in between. Try any one of these easy 4th of July recipes from Good Housekeeping, or a few recipes from Delish, or go all out and start a Pinterest board to get brainstorming!
Wrap it up with Fireworks
This too, has so many options! You can have your party on a different day than the main thoroughfare so everyone can do their own thing, such as watch a local grandiose display. Maybe you’re super lucky and can see that grandiose display perfectly from your backyard — in which case, you should definitely plan your party for that night and avoid the crazy crowds to just be with your closest friends and family.
Regardless of how you do it, shoot off at least a few fireworks at your 4th of July party, since that’s what the holiday is notoriously known for. Whether you provide them all yourself, do potluck fireworks to share, or everyone just bring their own, it’s a necessary part of your party plan, for sure.
With a little planning, you’re sure to bring together a great swimming pool party for the holiday. Have a fun and safe 4th of July!

Having a swimming pool Raleigh NC is great fun, there is no doubt, but you don’t want something simple. You want something grand! You want something the neighbors will stop and stare at in awe. And that means adding some really nice features to your fiberglass pool installation that make it look awesome and that add to your swimming enjoyment.
Adding water features to your swimming pool Fayetteville NC gives it the visual appeal you’ve been looking for to make an impact. There are several water features to choose from:
- Waterfall – Include a waterfall on the side that trickles into the swimming pool for a calming affect.
- Fountains – Fountains that pour across the pool are a beautiful visual, and can add a little fun to your swim time.
- Infinity Pool – An infinity pool has one recessed side so the water flows over it into a basin. It provides a visual effect that resembles an ocean flowing endlessly into the horizon.
Take those gorgeous water features to the next level by adding LED lights. You can get them in your favorite stationery colors, with the option to change them, or with variable colors that cycle through changing on their own. Even if you don’t have water features, LED lights in the swimming pool water will really add a romantic aura to evening swims, and elegance to your backyard design.
The Other Extras
Add a sound system for playing relaxing jazz music for your evening swim or something fun and upbeat while the kids swim during the day. Get a fancy spiral slide for added enjoyment. And, rather than just normal steps into the swimming pool design, consider a “shore line” design, which is a gradual incline into the water, just like at the beach.
Whatever features you decide on, spiffing up your pool (whether with an upgrade or starting from scratch) with all the bells and whistles is sure to make it the hub of the neighborhood. And if you’d rather keep it all to yourself, you can take pride in watching the neighbors covet from afar.

There are a lot of great reasons to install an outdoor kitchen. Whether you want to expand your living space outside, create an amazing entertaining space, or just increase the value of your home, an outdoor kitchen can be a great solution. And while you can use your outdoor kitchen all year long, it’s during the summer months that it really shines.
So this season, prepare and cook a variety of foods for your family and friends where you all really want to be – outside. Use these recipe suggestions to get started:
Breakfast … outside
For something fun and unexpected, prepare breakfast outside on a lazy summer weekend. With your fully equipped kitchen, you already have everything you need. Pancakes are a great choice and easy to make for a crowd. Serve ‘em up with a delicious fruit salad, plus plenty of syrup, and breakfast is served.
If your outdoor kitchen includes a grill, Honey Chicken Kabobs make a delicious main dish. Marinate the chicken and veggies overnight in your outdoor refrigerator for the best flavor, and feel free to add any of your favorite vegetables to the mix. These are delicious with Classic Rice Pilaf, or maybe some whole grain rolls from your local bakery.
It’s a theme!
Since your outdoor kitchen is so versatile, you can even do a theme night. Hold a taco party, but keep the mess – from prep through party time – outside. Prepare your favorite taco recipe – beef and chicken would be great, plus crunchy and soft shells. Make some traditional side dishes like Mexican Rice and great toppings like salsa, corn salsa, guacamole – whatever you like. Don’t forget the cheese, chips and sour cream!
Cooking and eating outdoors is a summertime tradition. Outdoor kitchens simply elevate that experience we all love.

# 10: All those jars didn’t open themselves.
# 9: Those spiders didn’t kill themselves, either.
# 8: Squeaky drawer? Rusty hinge? Who’d you call?
# 7: Car wouldn’t start? Ditto.
# 6: Snakes. That’s really all we need to say.
# 5: From T-ball through Varsity, he was there for you. Coaching and cheering you on.
# 4: From burgers and hot dogs to steaks and more, he’s the Grill Master.
# 3: Things on high shelves.
# 2: The man works hard. He NEEDS some downtime.
And the # 1 Reason … He’s DAD!
Seriously, though. A backyard pool isn’t just your dad’s reward for eliminating scary creatures and helping reach things you can’t. It’s an investment in the family. And if there’s one thing dad cares about, it’s family. Just imagine the gatherings and fun you’ll have in and around the new pool. Parties, BBQs, family celebrations – with the backyard pool as a centerpiece. It’s a great way to build family memories and traditions. How about an Annual Family Luau or Annual Kid’s Swimming Contest? With your own pool, why not?
Plus, swimming pools are an excellent way to get exercise, even during the hottest summer days. From water aerobics and other water exercises to just actively horsing around with the kids and grandkids, a backyard pool provides hours of active fun. Play some fun pool games or make up your own, and no one will be able to say, “I’m bored!”
Swimming pools may also add to the value of your home, and they definitely add to the attractiveness of your backyard. Just imagine looking out the backdoor at the green grass and flowering plants surrounding your beautiful swimming pool. It’s what every dad dreams of. Yours may just not realize it yet. So spend a little time this Father’s Day convincing him. He’ll thank you for it later.

You want your swimming pool to be your personal escape. Your backyard oasis. And while the swimming pool alone brings hours of fun and relaxation, water features can add an entirely new dimension to the experience.
It’s easiest, of course, to plan your water features while your pool is under construction. But if you already have a pool and now you’d like to add a feature, don’t despair. These elements can be added to existing swimming pools.
Types of water features
Deck Jets are a popular water feature. They form shimmering arcs of water from your pool deck into the water, and they can even be outfitted with LED lights for a fun light show effect.
Cascades and Waterfalls are also popular features, and can be designed to fit nearly any pool theme. You may be wondering if there’s really a difference between the two. The answer is, yes! With cascade features, the water rolls over several rocks or rock slabs and then tumbles into the pool. A waterfall may include a couple of tumbles depending on its height, but in the end the water will fall at least a few feet into the pool.
Bubblers are small “fountains” that typically sit at the edge of the pool. Often, bubblers are animals like frogs or turtles, mermaids, or even bowls or planters that spill over into the pool.
Sheer Descents produce varying arcs of water from a height, into your pool. Choose from a clear arc of water, a rain waterfall and more. Some options are available with fiber optic light for a truly unique experience.
That’s a lot of choices – and it’s really only the beginning. If you’re having trouble deciding which features make the most sense for your pool and your budget, give us a call. We’re here to help.

Do you know one of the best things about having a swimming pool?
Pool parties, of course!
From kid-themed parties to “adults-only affairs,” the options really are endless. So put your thinking (or swimming!) cap on, and start planning today!
Like the drive-in movies of old, but with a twist. You can rent a projector and screen, move your big screen TV poolside for the evening, or purchase an inexpensive projector and show the movie on the side of your house. Choose a film that’s appropriately themed – “The Little Mermaid” for the younger crowd, “Jaws” or classic 50’s beach movies for older party goers.
For snacks, serve classic movie treats like popcorn and candy, plus summer favorites like Popsicles. And be sure to have plenty of rafts, rings and other flotation devices available so your guests can watch from the water. That’s the whole point, after all!
A Hawaiian luau is a classic pool party idea, for a great reason – it’s fun! Themed decorations are inexpensive and easy to find, so you won’t have any trouble making your guests feel like they’ve stepped into a tropical paradise. Think leis and tiki torches, tropical flowers, bamboo and palm trees.
Serve delicious dishes with a taste of the islands, like ham or chicken prepared with pineapple, rice, and yummy fruits and vegetables. If you’re feeling truly ambitious (and you have the space), you might even consider hosting a traditional pig roast. Mai Tai and Blue Hawaii are traditional Hawaiian cocktails, while any fruity non-alcoholic punch will also fit your theme.
Whatever theme you follow, be sure to have plenty of extra towels and inexpensive flip flops on hand for guests who forget to bring their own. Have a changing room available, make sure all glassware is actually plastic (safety first!), and have plenty of tables so guests have space to set their food and drinks. And of course you’ll want to make sure your pool is clean and the water is clear. Be sure to stop in for the supplies you need, or schedule a cleaning.
With a little planning, you can create a pool party your guests will never forget!

Are you excited to show off your new in-ground or above ground swimming pool Fayetteville NC? Why not kick off the swimming season with a Memorial Day pool party at your place? Before you send out the invites though, let’s do some planning.
Grill it Up
Now’s the time to add a firepit or barbecue pit to your backyard design, so that your guests can enjoy an awesome outdoor meal. After all, what’s a Memorial Day gathering without striking a match and grilling up some succulent meats? We can help you find the perfect flame-based addition for your yard just in time for your big weekend gathering.
Deck the Pool Walls
Not everyone is going to want to be swimming the entire time, regardless of how awesome your new above ground pool Raleigh NC may be (especially if you got it from Parrot Bay!). For those sun bathers or Grandma Jean who would rather just watch the kids play in the water, a deck is a perfect place for them to relax and enjoy the festivities. Guess what, we can help you with your desk design too!
Pool Party Games
What’s a Memorial Day pool party without some games?
*An inexpensive and lightweight bucket filled with water becomes a piñata when whacked with a pool noodle (suspend it on a rope that a couple of adults hold on either side of the pool).
*Play a pool version of Hot Potato by keeping a beach ball in the air as long as possible (drop it or hit it out of the pool area and you’re out!).
*A floating card table is a great way for the adults to play some Blackjack or Poker while in the pool.
Your Memorial Day pool party can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be – everyone will be happy with swimming and food involved! And Parrot Bay Pools can help you get ready just in time, from full above ground pool installation Raleigh NC to putting in a deck or a firepit. We’re here to help.

When you’re creating a backyard oasis, you want it to look amazing. In addition to your in-ground or above ground swimming pool Raleigh NC, a deck can really add visual appeal and give your family and friends a great place to soak up the sun and relax together when they’re not swimming. It’s the ultimate spot for entertaining.
One way to add interest to your swimming pool design is to add a multi-level deck, such as with a partial in-ground swimming pool, which has varying surface levels. This deck design works well with a sloped backyard, or when you have more than one story to your home, where you can build a deck for each story to utilize, from the pool to the top floor.
Make Your Deck Curvy
Most deck designs consist of straight lines, so a curved deck design can contribute to an elegant backyard theme. Follow the curve of your above ground pool Fayetteville NC, or use your curved deck to add contrast to the straight lights of your rectangular in-ground pool.
Use the Unexpected for Your Deck
You’re not limited to cedar 2x4s – your deck design can be anything you want it to be. For a more modern look, use bamboo panels. Or change the directionality of the wood throughout the deck for a visually appealing design.
Several different staining or paint options are available too. Mix and match – place your wood deck next to stamped concrete for contrast and versatility around your above ground swimming pool. Or even add a pergola or structure to one part of your deck so guests can choose from sun or shade.
Designing your swimming pool deck isn’t just about usability, but also visual appeal. At Parrot Bay Pools, we’re excited to help you design an outdoor space that’s all your own, from your in-ground or above ground swimming pool to your deck.
